Team Building
Define the roster construction rules participants must follow when building their teams.
Overview
The Team Building page has three tabs: Tiers, Budget Settings, and Custom Stars. Together they control which races are available, how upgrades are structured, what participants can spend, and any custom star players unique to your tournament.
Changes to team building rules automatically trigger roster revalidation. A health badge in the page header shows the current status -- green when all rosters are valid, amber while revalidating, or red if it failed (click to retry).
Tiers
Tiers group races and define the improvement options available to each group. Every tournament needs at least one tier.
Creating and Managing Tiers
- Click Add Tier at the bottom of the tier list
- Give it a name (e.g. "Tier 1" or "Bash")
- Assign races using the multi-select dropdown
You can also rename, duplicate, or delete tiers using the icons next to each tier name. Use the chevron toggle to collapse or expand tiers for easier navigation.
Deleting a tier removes it and all its options permanently. Affected rosters will be flagged for revalidation.
If any races in your variant are not assigned to a tier, a warning banner shows which races are missing. Assign all races before participants start building rosters.
Improvement Options (Packs)
Each tier contains one or more improvement options. These define what upgrades participants can apply. A new tier starts with one default option.
- Click the pencil icon on an option to rename it
- Click the stack icon to set a treasury adjustment (gold bonus or penalty)
- Click Add Option to create another option within the tier
When a tier has multiple options, drag to reorder them. Each option has three configurable sections:
Skills -- Limits and costs for primary, secondary, and elite skill upgrades:
- Total allowed, maximum per player, maximum players per skill type
- Base cost, stack tax, and repeat tax (in Gold or Skill Points mode)
- Options: allow primary as secondary, count starting skills, cap stacked improvements
Characteristics -- Stat upgrades (MA, ST, AG, PA, AV) with per-stat limits:
- Total allowed, upgrades per player, players per upgrade
- Base cost, stack tax, and repeat tax (in Gold or Skill Points mode)
- Overall budget cap and total characteristic limit
Star Players -- Star player access per option:
- Maximum allowed, budget cap, SP tax per star, disable specific stars
Inducements
Click the inducements badge on an expanded tier to enable or disable individual inducements for that tier.
Budget Settings
Base Treasury
Set the starting gold for all participants. Available values are variant-driven and shown in the dropdown. This is the base amount before any tier-specific treasury adjustments.
Budget Mode
- Limits Only -- Upgrades are free up to the tier limits. No costs tracked.
- Gold -- Upgrades cost gold from the base treasury.
- Skill Points -- Upgrades cost SP from a separate pool.
When Gold is selected, toggle Includes Upgrades to control whether the base treasury already accounts for upgrade costs or whether upgrades are purchased on top of the base roster.
When Skill Points is selected:
- Per-option SP pool -- Set from each option's Skill Points action (sparkles). This can be set per option or applied to all options in a tier.
- SP Upgrades Affect TV -- Whether SP-purchased upgrades count toward team value
Custom Stars
Create tournament-specific star players that participants can hire alongside the standard roster.
Creating a Custom Star
- Click Add Custom Star on the Custom Stars tab
- Fill in Name, Cost (in thousands), Stats (MA/ST/AG/PA/AV), Skills, and optionally a Special Ability and Image
- Select which leagues can hire this star
- Set whether the star is required on submission and whether it counts toward the player limit
- Click Create
Managing Custom Stars
- Edit a star by clicking its name or the edit button
- Archive a star to hide it from participants without deleting it
- Restore an archived star to make it available again
Presets, Import, and Export
Use the Actions dropdown in the page header:
- Apply Preset -- Select a pre-built configuration. This replaces all existing tiers.
- Export -- Download your tier configuration as a
.scorebbfile. - Import -- Upload a
.scorebbor.jsonfile to replace all tiers.
Applying a preset or importing a configuration replaces all existing tiers and cannot be undone. Export first to keep a backup.
Locked State
When rosters are locked (via the Participants page), most editing is disabled. Unlock rosters from the Participants page to make changes.
